KABUL – The IS-K terror group has asserted its involvement in a second deadly attack in Afghanistan, targeting a vehicle in eastern Kabul. The blast killed at least three people, marking the group’s second assault in the country in a span of seven days.
According to Khalid Zadran, the spokesman for Kabul police, the incident occurred on Tuesday when a bomb concealed in a cart near a minivan detonated, causing three fatalities and injuring four individuals. Zadran informed AFP on Wednesday that a suspect had been apprehended, confessing to his participation in the attack.
ISIL claimed responsibility for the incident through its Telegram channel, stating that it had “detonated an explosive device on a vehicle transporting employees of the Pul-e-Charki prison.” This follows another attack claimed by ISIL on Saturday, involving an explosion on a bus in the Dasht-e-Barchi neighborhood, resulting in the deaths of at least five people. Dasht-e-Barchi is known for being an enclave of the historically persecuted Shiite Hazara community, a target of repeated ISIL attacks due to religious differences.
The regional chapter of ISIL has consistently targeted Shiites, considering them heretics, and has carried out multiple attacks against the community in recent months. In November, another explosion on a bus in Dasht-e-Barchi claimed at least seven lives, with ISIL also claiming responsibility.
