KABUL: At least 14 people, including Islamic State members and five Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers, have been killed during a clash in the Bala Baluk district of western Farah province, an official said on Tuesday.
The 207th Zafar Military Corps spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News a number of Taliban militants and IS members conducted a joint attack on ANA posts in the Khwaja Khezr area of the district in the morning.
Mohammad Hamid Rezayee said that 14 militants, including a Taliban-designated district chief and some IS fighters, were killed and 19 others wounded in the firefight. Two soldiers were also killed and another two wounded.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defence said five ANA soldiers were killed in the clash. “Twenty insurgents including Mullah Ewaz Shiwayee, Mullah Ewaz Khanjari and Mullah Paida Gul, were killed and 12 others wounded,” a statement from the ministry said.
However, Taliban claimed killing 12 soldiers and injuring eight others in the attack. They confirmed the loss of only one rebel. A 13 years old boy was also killed by soldiers during the clash, they alleged. (PAN)
