Wolesi Jirga summons security officials for expansion of security
AT-KABUL: Acting Chief of the National Directorate of Security (NDS) blamed Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) for supporting Taliban against the Afghan government.
“The ISI is fully supporting Taliban insurgents with the aim to expand conflicts in different parts of our country,” Massoud Andarabi addressed lawmakers as he was summoned to the parliament’s Monday session along with other security officials to explain about the mounting insecurity.
Legislators expressed concerns over expansion of insecurity in various parts of the country, lack of cooperation among between Afghan security organs and international forces in fighting against Taliban and seizure of districts by the insurgents.
Andarabi said that Taliban insurgents were planning to accelerate attacks in the spring.
He added that the Afghan security organs established close cooperation for conducting offensive operations over militants in the current year.
Acting interior minister Taj Mohammad Jahed said that most of the provinces were facing high security threats and the insurgents hardly try to capture more areas.
He said that security forces have essential surveillances and security plans in the vulnerable provinces to stave off Taliban attacks.
Jahed confirmed there were abduction, terror and robbery cases in the big cities, saying that police were working hard to remove them.
Qadam Shah Shahim, chief of army staff, said the national army was launching the Shafaq military operations against Taliban insurgents.
He stressed that the Shafaq military operation would follow three important measures maintaining areas, conducting clearing operations and preventing insurgent attacks.
“So far, the Shafaq operation is going on in six provinces and will be launched in other insecure provinces,” he mentioned.
Shahim highlighted that defense ministry had drafted security strategy plan for international community to get aids for enforcement of army from 2020 to 2024.
He asked people to support their security forces in every hook and corner of the country and refrain from propaganda.
Four missiles fired at the parliament building at the time that security officials were explaining security situation to the lawmakers.
