AT-KABUL: The Jamiat political party said it would sit again with the government to talk over the fate of the dismissed governor of Balkh province, Atta Mohammad Noor and other differences and problems.
Mohayuddin Mahdi, a member of the party said he was hopeful the talks would have results this time, but did not specify the time of negotiations.
“In some points we had opposing views and this caused the delay in the talks. We had a break last time and this is the second break. But we will sit again after 18 days,” Mahdi said.
The government remains silent over the talks with Jamiat.
Mahdi said that the distribution of the electronic ID cards was one of the differences, adding that the government would be convinced to a public consensus.
But the population registration department said the distributing process had already begun and there was no way to stop the process.
Tensions between government and Jamiat emerged after President Ghani approved the resignation of the controversial Balkh governor in December. The latter denied his resignation, saying the government was not authorized to fire him as he was part of the deal between Ghani and Jamiat. Atta is a powerful commander of Jamiat.
“This situation is followed by two problems: first it creates a political instability and secondly, takes the government farther from the people,” said political analyst Qodratullah Zwak.
