KABUL – Japan has officially appointed Takuyoshi Kurumaya as its new ambassador to Afghanistan. The formal introduction of Ambassador Kurumaya took place as his predecessor, Takashi Okada, concluded his tenure as Japan’s ambassador to Afghanistan. Ambassador Okada introduced his successor to Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate.
During a farewell meeting, Ambassador Okada reflected on the positive developments and achievements in Afghanistan during his term. He expressed hope for a productive relationship with the international community to assist in addressing the current challenges facing the nation.
Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, commended Ambassador Okada for the successful completion of his mission and extended his best wishes to Ambassador Kurumaya in his new role in Kabul. In response, Ambassador Kurumaya pledged to work diligently to strengthen the diplomatic ties between Tokyo and Kabul.
This development comes as few countries have functioning political presence and embassies in Afghanistan under Taliban rule.
