AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The council of former Jihadi leaders stressed that the traditional Loya Jirga (a grand council of elders) should be convened immediately to amend constitution.
Based on the deal signed between the two leaders of the National Unity Government (NUG)— President Ashraf Ghani and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah— the government should call a Loya Jirga within two yours to amend constitution and create post of executive prime minister.
Member of the council said that fate of the prime minister’s position should be determined soon.
Former Jihadi leaders and political figures formed the council in the aftermath of deterioration of security situation across the country.
The council urged the government to convene the traditional Loya Jirga soon.
“Convening Loya Jirga is demand of both people of Afghanistan and the council,” said Iqbal Safi, a member of the council.
TOLOnews reported that member of the council will soon hold meeting with President Ashraf Ghani to ask him to hold Loya Jirga without any delay. Members of the council said that they in cooperation with the government have established a committee to bring reforms.
However, other members of the council said that the government is not interested to work with the council. “Even in some cases the government acts against the council,” said Dawoud Kalakani, another member of the council.
