Abdul Zuhoor Qayomi-KABUL: Minister of Justice, Abdul Basir Anwar, on Sunday said that those who grabbed the state-owned lands in the past 13 years would be brought to the books.
Addressing a press conference, the minister vowed that usurped properties would be retaken from the grabbers while enforcing the court verdicts passed in the past 13 years.
He said the ministry was exploring all possibilities to prevent people from grabbing the state-owned lands. Ministry of Justice has also decided to hold a joint conference with relevant organizations aimed to increase coordination.
Briefing media-persons on his 100-day plan, he said that implementation of the courts’ final verdicts in civil cases is one of his top priorities. Public meetings to take notice of peoples’ legal issues, is also part of the minister’s action plan.
While accepting that corruption does exists in all government departments, he said that fight against corruption is imperative to overcome many other challenges. He said the government has been very serious in its fight against corruption. Lack of sufficient professional staff was one of the major challenges mentioned by the minister. Anwar said that 56 percent of the ministry’s staff was 12th grade pass and work mostly in provinces.
“Therefore, Ministry of Justice has decided to hire 125 well qualified people through a transparent procedure,” he said, adding that 340 more staffers would assess professionalism and management, and 10 female service members would monitor in-service instructions in B.A programs.
He said that juvenile prisons would be constructed, because houses were rented for 25 out of 34 prisons. The minister also promised to provide quality education to the young prisoners and establish libraries and vocational centers within the prisons in Balkh, Nangarhar, Khost and Maidan Wardak.
