KABUL – Afghanistan and Turkmenistan have reached an agreement for the supply of 1.8 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity to western parts of Afghanistan. Chief Executive Officer of Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS), Mullah Muhammad Hanif Hamza, and his delegation engaged in talks with Turkmenistan’s Energy Minister Annageldy Saparov and Turkmenenergo management.
This meeting, covered by Azernews, spanned two days and culminated in the signing of a crucial contract for electricity supply for the year 2024.
Per the terms of the agreement, a substantial amount of energy, totaling up to 1.8 billion kilowatt-hours, is set to be supplied across four key areas: Andho, Akin, Badghis, and Turgonday-Herat. Furthermore, the completion of the 500 kV transmission line from Sheberghan to Arghanday was confirmed during this diplomatic engagement. This transmission line, recently commissioned, is poised to augment the volume of electricity acquired from Turkmenistan.
