KABUL: The government has called Taliban insurgents to cut relationships with all “foreign terrorist groups” as the militants had vowed to stop relations with the al-Qaeda group in a US peace deal signed late February.
Sediq Sediqqi, President Ghani’s Spokesman confirmed a US state of defense report that claims the insurgents still keep relations with al-Qaeda, a network responsible for the 09/11 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington.
The report said that Taliban and al-Qaeda have ties in the Indian sub-continent.
“Our intelligence reports say about the presence of foreign fighters in Afghanistan. The US-Taliban peace agreement includes the cut of Taliban relations with al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups, so we want its implementation. Otherwise, keeping relations with terrorist groups would harm peace process,” Sediqqi said on Saturday.
Based on the deal, Taliban do not let any terrorist group to use Afghan soil against the security of the US and its allies in Europe.
Hekmat Azami, a military expert, says that Taliban are still in coalition with al-Qaeda and other extremist groups.
“It seems that Taliban’s key persons are cooperating with al-Qaeda network and have lately started working on an alliance with al-Qaeda, Daesh, Haqqani network, Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad as members. We have no doubt that the US-Taliban peace agreement will make a new trouble,” Azami said.
