Kabul, Moscow bolstering bilateral cooperation

AT-KABUL: The Russian Security Council’s Secretary, Mr. Nikolai Patrushev has arrived in Kabul on Tuesday to bolster bilateral relations between the two countries.

According to the statement issued by the National Security Council, the Russian Secretary has made an official visit to Kabul on the invitation of his Afghan counterpart, Mohammad Haneef Atmar.

During the meeting, the two sides shared views regarding issues related to bilateral cooperation.

Atmar and Patrushev expressed their desires to further improve and expand bilateral cooperation between the two important partners.

Moreover, they also had detailed discussion on regional security and stability and the ongoing threats facing the two countries and the region as well.

The two sides were formally agreed to strengthen collective and sustained efforts in fight against terrorism and narcotics trafficking was termed as one among the major destabilizing factors in the region which needs comprehensive strategy and efforts to combat this evil.

In addition to that, they enhanced economic cooperation between the two important regional neighbors. According to them economic cooperation is key to peace, stability and prosperity in the region.

During the meeting the two high-ranking officials have emphasized on undertaking joint economic initiatives.

Being a greater strategist, Haneef Atmar’s role is very much important to secure Afghanistan’s national interests on regional and international fronts. Prior to this, the Indian Security Councils Adviser Ajit Doval also made an official visit to Kabul on the invitation of Atmar. It was followed by President Ashraf Ghani-led high-ranking delegation, comprising Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani and Haneef Atmar to New Delhi, where they held talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian President and Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj.
