AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Afghan Ambassador in Pakistan, Janan Mosazai called on Pakistan’s Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in Islamabad the other day, said media reports.
According to Pakistan’s Daily, the two sides discussed matters of mutual interest, promotion of Afghanistan-Pakistan ties and regional situation.
Janan Mosazai said that Afghanistan wanted to strengthen its relations with Pakistan.
He gave the proposal to set up Afghan Consulate in Lahore which was welcomed by the chief minister.
During the session, Shahbaz Sharif said that Pakistan and Afghanistan had strong historical, religious and cultural relations and a new era of Afghanistan-Pakistan relations had begun due to the mutual visits of the leaderships and senior authorities of the two countries.
The Chief Minister welcomed the proposal of setting up of Afghan Consulate General in Lahore. He said that peace in Afghanistan and Pakistan is interlinked and the leaderships of the two countries are making serious efforts for restoring peace and harmony in the region.
He said that Pakistan government led by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the people are determined to root out terrorism from the country. He added that relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan had improved; however, there is need for promotion of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.
Kabul-Islamabad relations entered a new phase following the formation of the new government in Afghanistan and the deadly attack in Peshawar city which left more than 130 children dead.
A number of Afghan critics believe that good improvements had been made in Afghanistan-Pakistan relegations but the two countries need to improve trade ties as it was the main route and an effective way to bring the people and the governments of the two countries closer.
