AT New Report-KABUL: The Afghan government and people have reacted to the unauthorized and alleged fencing work by Pakistan along the Durand Line and called it un-acceptable and unproductive move of Islamabad.
The ministry of foreign affairs spokesperson, Ahmad Shakib Mostaghni said in a conference on Tuesday here in Kabul that the fencing work along the Durand Line would be ineffective without Kabul’s consent.
Regarding fencing work of the Pakistan along Durand Line, he said, “Any kind of working along Durand line without agreement of the government of Afghanistan would be unproductive, impossible and unpractical.”
However, he added, “based on our security intelligence information, Pakistan has so far done noting such thing along the Line,” he said, referring to the fencing.
This comes as the Pakistani Army Chief of Staff General Qamar Javid Bajwa has said that fencing work has been started in Bajaur and Momand agencies as the two are hugely affected by the militant’s infiltration.
In addition to that, the former Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari has welcomed the fencing work along the Durand Line and stressed on mutual consultation between Kabul and Islamabad for more securing of the crossing points.
He said that proper security of the Line would put an end to the ongoing allegations of the militant’s infiltration.
Recently a Pashtun intellectual, Dr. Khurshid Alam has written in his article, published in Pashtun Times that Pakistan has no right and validity to bring any single change along the Durand Line. He furthered that any temporary or permanent change related to Durand Line has to be approved by the Loya Jirga (Assembly) of Pashtun tribes, inhabited on both sides of the Line. Moreover, he added that militants had been given safe passage during the Pakistani military operations in Tribal Areas. He said that only one clause of military operation; Zarb-e-Azab was implemented to raze Waziristan to the ground.
Dr. Khurshid claimed that there is no chance of durable peace and stability on both sides of Durand Line, unless Pakistan is made irrelevant in the peace process.
He has emphasized on the invitation of Grand Jirga (Assembly) of Lar o Bar Afghans, having representation of USA, UK, India, China and Russia to present the Pashtun case.
Prior to this, Chief of Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, Mahmood Khan Achakzai has also stressed on organizing of Pashtun International Conference to share views and develop a joint consensus on all the relevant burning issues, being faced by the Pashtuns in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Similarly, many activists and analysts belong from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) are constantly demanding a Loya Jirga of the local people, to be held under the umbrella of United Nations to decide fate of FATA.
