KABUL – In a significant operation at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport, the Pakistan Customs Drug Enforcement Cell made a major discovery on Saturday, seizing a stash of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as “crystal ice.” The estimated street value of this haul is a staggering Rs300 million.
According to Pakistani media, Collector Shafiq Ahmed, stationed at Jinnah International Airport’s terminal, has pointed out that there is suspicion surrounding the actions of Gulbaz Khan, the intended recipient in Bahrain. It is possible that, fearing the legal consequences, Khan chose not to receive the parcel and instead decided to send it back. The bags of dry fruits, originally dispatched from Mazar Sharif, Afghanistan, were attributed to an individual identified as Rafi, hailing from Afghanistan. Given Pakistan’s proximity to Afghanistan, the bags of dry fruits ultimately arrived at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport. The plan was to transport the goods back to Afghanistan via Peshawar.
The narcotics were cunningly concealed within three baskets of dry fruits that were originally dispatched from Afghanistan to Bahrain but subsequently returned to Pakistan. It’s important to note that under international law, the parcel could not be opened without proper authorization from the intended recipient.
This significant seizure highlights the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking at one of Pakistan’s busiest airports and serves as a reminder of the persistent challenges posed by the illegal drug trade.
