AT-KABUL: Ex-President Hamid Karzai called on people to help the residents of Kunduz city that fell to the Taliban and witnessed unprecedented humanitarian challenges unleashed by the barbaric militants.
The government lost control of Kunduz city last week. Kunduz was the first provincial capital to fall to the Taliban in 14 years. Afghan security forces retook control of the city the other day.
The government accused the Taliban militants of raping and killing civilians after seizing the northern city.
Hamid Karzai said that Afghans have suffered at the hands of others. “I am confident the people of Afghanistan will resist against foreign schemes with unity,” he added.
Karzai said that people stood united though hardships. “Solidarity and unity are the only tools to take us out from the jaws of challenges triumphantly,” he said.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for quick recovery of the wounded.
