KABUL: Former President, Hamid Karzai expressed support for President Ashraf Ghani’s plan about calling a Consultation Loya Jirga (Grand Assembly) to seek ways to resolve current problems that Afghanistan has been scrambling with.
Ghani said Monday that he would call the Loya Jirga to consult on peace process.
“As I have repeatedly emphasized on calling the Loya Jirga and respecting people’s will and as I consider Loya Jirga as the only way that helps us get out of the current problems, this time I also call the Jirga necessary for reaching a longstanding peace and express my support for that,” Karzai said in a statement.
He also said that Ghani’s decision to choose Omer Daudzai as the jirga organizer was a suitable choice, wishing success for him.
Amide peace efforts Ghani showed readiness to convene Consultative Loya Jirga in next month to seek support for the Afghan peace process with the Taliban.
Addressing the “National Consultative Meeting on Peace” at the Presidential Palace, Ghani said the decision to hold a Jirga has been made on the advice of delegates of today’s conference to help “dignified” peace in the country.
Ghani called on his Special Representative on Regional Affairs for Consensus on Peace, Omar Daudzai to convene Consultative Loya Jirga in Kabul at end of March, saying there is no risk in holding consultations
