AT-KABUL: Ex-President Hamid Karzai called on Afghan media to promote national unity.
Staffers of Pajhwok Afghan News in a meeting with Hamid Karzai on Sunday applauded his support to freedom of speech over the past 13 years.
Danish Karokhel, head of the news agency praised Hamid Karzai’s all-out support to freedom of expression. He accredited the improvement of media to support of the ex-President Karzai.
“Afghan media will never forget the tireless efforts of Hamid Karzai for improvement of free speech in Afghanistan,” he added.
Hamid Karzai said that freedom of expression was the desire of the entire Afghan nation. “cruel situation left Afghans as a voiceless nation, which provided edge to neighboring countries to claim leadership of our soil,” Karzai added.
The ex-president said that people of Afghanistan, particularly the new generation, played an important role in improvement in freedom of speech over the past 13 years.
He called on media to play role for promoting national unity.
