Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai has strongly denounced Pakistan’s recent military airstrikes in the Barmal district of Paktika province, labeling them as a “blatant aggression” and a violation of Afghanistan’s sovereignty.
In a statement posted on his X account (formerly Twitter), Karzai blamed the persistent tensions between the two countries on Pakistan’s policies, which he argued have nurtured extremism and sought to undermine Afghanistan’s stability. He called for an urgent reassessment of these policies, emphasizing the need for a “civilized relationship” based on mutual respect and good neighborly ties for the benefit of both nations.
The airstrikes, carried out late Tuesday night, claimed 46 lives and left six people injured, according to local reports. The incident has drawn widespread criticism and renewed calls for de-escalation in the already strained relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Karzai’s remarks reflect growing frustration within Afghanistan over Pakistan’s military actions and underscore the urgency of addressing the root causes of bilateral tensions.
