AT-KABUL: The ex-President Hamid Karzai expressed his grief over the death of Azizullah Wasifi, a prominent political and national figure.
The renowned political and cultural figure passed away on Saturday.
Hamid Karzai extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family as well as the people of Afghanistan. Karzai prayed to Allah Almighty to rest the soul of the deceased in the eternal peace, and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear this loss with fortitude.
Azizullah Wasifi served two terms as a parliamentarian from Kandahar province during the King Zahir Shah’s era and the decade of democracy in Afghanistan. He also worked as the governor of Nangarhar province and the minister of agriculture. Wasifi was the chairman of the Loya Jirga in the solar year 1355.
He also took part in Jihad of the people of Afghanistan against the Soviet Union and was one of the staunch supporters of peace and stability for the past 13 years.
