AT-KABUL: The Chairman and members of the Kunduz provincial council called on ex-President Hamid Karzai at his office here on Sunday.
The PC members briefed Hamid Karzai on security situation in Kunduz province as well as the challenges faced by people. Hamid Karzai and the PC members exchanged views on provision of aid to residents of Kunduz province. Kunduz city recently fall to the Taliban militants. After several days of fighting, Afghan security forces managed to retake the city. According to reports, life in Kunduz is now returning to normal. Kunduz was the first major city to fall to the Taliban militants over the past 14 years.
Hamid Karzai expressed regret over recent conflicts in Kunduz city. He extended his condolences to the bereaved families of the victims of recent fighting. The former president commended Afghan traders for providing humanitarian aid to residents of Kunduz province.
Hamid Karzai hoped that Afghanistan would soon come out these challenges. “I am confident that Afghans with unity can preserve the achievements of the past 13 years and move towards a prosperous future,” he said.
Karzai added that Afghans should not allow foreigners to use Afghanistan for their interests. He stressed that presence of foreign forces should ensure elimination of terrorism and end of war in Afghanistan.
