AT-KABUL: Ex-President Hamid Karzai put his weight behind the recent stance of the National Unity Government (NUG) leaders towards Pakistan.
He reminded the Pakistani military establishment, including the ISI, that it would never succeed in achieving its evil goals while destroying Afghanistan.
This comes at a time that President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah slammed Pakistan for recent terrorist attacks in Kabul. Ghani said that “messages of war” is sent to the Afghan government from Pakistan. He said that Pakistan is still harboring bomb-making camps.
Talking to a gathering on the occasion of International Youth Day, ex-President Karzai said that people of Afghanistan and Pakistan are like brothers. However, he said that Afghans have suffered a lot at the hands of Pakistani military establishment.
Hinting at recent terrorist attacks in Kabul, Karzai called on national businessmen to support victims of the recent suicide attack in Shah Shaheed area of Kabul.
Encouraging youth to excel in education, Karzai said that current war is not fought face to face, but it’s the war fought through education and technology.
“Now is the time to ask all those countries who have stood with us as allies in the fight against terrorism to tell the truth. If they are facing a defeat in war against terrorism, they should seek support from other regional countries, including India, China and Russia, who are sharing the same concerns regarding terrorism,” Karzai added.
He said that politicians from the US, Britain and all other countries have repeatedly said in the past that Pakistan’s ISI is founder and supporter of terrorism in the region. Karzai added that if the West really believes so, then it should stop supporting Pakistan. “We want friendly relations with the US and the international community; however, as a nation we have all the rights to ask what would be our fate, in which direction are we going and why are we rendering sacrifices,” he went on as saying.
Hamid Karzai called on Afghan youth that leaving Afghanistan is not the solution. “Only by staying in Afghanistan, by working hard and by rendering sacrifices we can save Afghanistan and steer it towards prosperity,” he stressed.
