AT News Report-KABUL: In the wake of the initiation of work on TAPI gas pipeline in Western Herat province, former president Hamid Karzai congratulated the people of Afghanistan on the start of this landmark project.
He said, “I am delighted to hear that the operational work on TAPI gas pipeline – which is one of the most vital national and economic projects for the people of Afghanistan – has been embarked upon, and I congratulate the inauguration of this project to the entire Muslim nation of Afghanistan.”
Karzai also reckoned the start of this mega project as a positive economic stride, whose implementation would help improve the living conditions of the people.
Work on TAPI gas pipeline to transfer the natural gas of Turkmenistan to Pakistan and India through Afghanistan was inaugurated in the western Herat province amid tight security on Friday.
Ahead of inauguration of work for the TAPI project, Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani in his speech described the essential Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) pipeline project as a “corridor of development” and stressed for regional cooperation.
TAPI project would transport 33 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Galkynysh gas reserve of Turkmenistan annually along an 1,800 km route to Fazilka near the border with Pakistan in northern India.
Afghanistan would earn 500 million U.S. dollars as royalty each year from TAPI project, according to Afghan officials.
