“No one can push Afghanistan into fiefdom or divide Afghans”
AT-KABUL: Ex-President Hamid Karzai called on Afghan youth to stay in Afghanistan and work for development of their home country.
Talking to gathering marking the International Students’ Day, Hamid Karzai said that illegal immigration of Afghan youth to foreign countries was distressing. He said that only young people through hard work could steer the country towards progress.
He called on the new generation not to leave their country. “You don’t have any future in foreign countries,” said Karzai to Afghan youth.
He stressed that no one can lead Afghanistan towards fiefdom or divide this united nation.
Karzai termed education as a key to development and prosperity, adding that educated youth have played an important role in recent developments of the country.
Karzai urged foreign troops to respect Afghanistan’s sovereignty, culture and traditions, if they want to stay in the country.
Hamid Karzai said that foreign forces are in Afghanistan to fight against militancy and play their role in development of the country. “They should pursue their goals without harming Afghans, or they will face a strong reaction,” he added.
Karzai has repeatedly asked the youth not to leave Afghanistan for realizing their dreams abroad. Speaking at a ceremony in September commemorating the fourth anniversary of the assassination of former president, Burhanuddin Rabbani, Karzai told the youth that foreign countries would not be their safe haven.
He asked the religious scholars to discourage the illegal immigration and convince the youth to stay and work in Afghanistan.
