KABUL: Former President Hamid Karzai welcomed the restart of peace negotiations between Afghanistan and Taliban negotiators.

The two negotiating teams began the talks on Saturday after three weeks of pause during which they were consulting their leaderships.

The former president called on the two Afghan sides to realize their national and Islamic obligations and honestly work for a sovereign, united and strong Afghanistan and try to bring a lasting peace to the country and end the war soon.
