KABUL: US Special Envoy for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad has welcomed Sunday’s telephonic conversations that made between President Ashraf Ghani and Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan.
“Pleased to see PM Imran Khan and President Ashraf Ghani spoke today,” Khalilzad said in a tweet. “Both leaders say they prize the economic dividend peace can bring, especially the potential gains from regional connectivity and integration. That’s a common vision that can truly propel the region forward.”
In their Sunday’s conversation, Imran Khan and Ashraf Ghani agreed to capitalize on the true economic potential of the two countries for assured socio-economic development, alleviation of poverty, and welfare of the two peoples.
During their telephonic conversation, the two leaders exchanged views on matters relating to peace, security and prosperity in Afghanistan and the region.
The Pakistani leader said his country was ready to extend all cooperation to the Afghan government in bringing stability and peace to the war-torn country.
At the end, Prime Minister Imran Khan reiterated his invitation to President Ashraf Ghani to visit Pakistan for a comprehensive exchange of views on all issues of mutual interest. The Afghan leader accepted his invitation but dates for the visit would be decided though mutual consultations.
