KABUL: The US Special Envoy for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad flew on Tuesday to the southern province of Kandahar, where he met with elders and people representatives from the Grand Kandahar (includes provinces of Kandahar, Zabul, Uruzgan and Helmand), KabulNews reported.

The US representative for Afghan peace reportedly informed them about his current negotiations with the Taliban.

He separately met with senior Taliban commanders in the area whose opinions are important, according to reports.

Khalilzad is in a regional tour ahead of his sixth round of talks with Taliban negotiating team to be held in Qatar.
