By Farhad Naibkhel-KABUL: President Ghani on Monday inaugurated several public-utility and development projects in southern Khost province.
Ghani laid the foundation stones for an energy network project, a radar system for the Khost airport, a firefighting complex building and airport runway during his visit from the province, said a statement issued by the Presidential Palace.
The electricity network project with a total budget of $12.7 million will be completed within two years, after completion of which 13,000 people will be provided with electricity in Khost province.
Ghani also inaugurated the Khost airport runway in presence of cabinet members, Parliament members and Khost tribal chieftains. The 2664 meter long and 45 meter wide runway has been built at a total cost of 729 million Afs.
Insisting over the development of domestic products, the president instructed officials to accomplish the Loya Paktia, Khost and Germany air corridor affairs in order to transfer peanuts there.
During his visit from Khost province, Ghani met with security officials ordering them to reinforce security ahead of the upcoming parliamentary and district council electionsand to avoid any kind of interference in the national process. The president also met separately with the religious leaders, tribal elders, the Parliamentrepresentatives, district chiefs, teachers, traders, women, youth and civil society activists.After hearing accomplishments and challenges,he ordered the issues be addressed as soon as possible.
