AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Hundreds of the tribal elders and public masses of the eastern Kunar province have expressed their anger against Pakistan’s rockets shelling into the province, demanding for its full stop.
The tribal elders in a gathering called on Pakistani government to immediately put a halt to their shelling that has been landing into some parts of the province since weeks.
A tribal elder, Shah Mahmood Qazi, addressing the gathering in Asadabad, the provincial capital, asked the Afghan government to provide all necessary weapons to the frontline security forces.
Another speaker, Maulvi Najibullah Haqyar, emphasized on the Ministry for Border and Tribal Affairs to take required steps for resolving problems being faced by tribes living on the both sides of the crossings.
A member of the provincial council, Jamaluddin Sayyar, said that Pakistan was violating Afghanistan’s sovereignty through firing rockets. “Such behavior is not tolerable at all.”
He added that the Afghan security forces, government and the people are ready to render any kind of sacrifices to defense their motherland.
Deputy Tribal and Border Affairs Minister, Mohammad Yaqub Ahmadzai, who attended the gathering, said that efforts through diplomatic channels have been underway to prevent Pakistani shelling.
He said that Islamabad is struggling to create hatred and distinction among Pashtun tribes, inhabited on both sides of the Durand Line through the shelling. “But we would not let it to succeed.”
“The people living on both sides of the Durand Line are brothers,” the deputy minister said.
He said Pakistan wants to evict residents from areas near the border and to install military installations there. “But Afghanistan would defend its territory at every cost and in this regard, the government has full support of the people.”
