AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The ongoing clashes between Afghan security forces and the Taliban insurgents have been resulted into closure of Kunduz-Takhar highway in Khanabad district of northern Kunduz province on Friday. According to provincial officials, Khanabad district is in brink of collapse as clashes on the move.
The Khanabad distract administrative head, Hayatullah Amiri, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the Taliban on Friday morning stormed a number of security posts in the district and as a result the Kunduz-Takhar highway had been closed.
“Clashes between the two sides continued as of Friday noon and security forces had retreated to Chahartoota area and the Taliban were trying to capture that area as well,” he added.
“We have contacted the security officials in Kunduz city for sending reinforcements,” the district chief said.
A resident of the district, Haji Yousaf Rahman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that it was 4am local time when the Taliban insurgents launched their attacks on security posts and captured some areas.
He added that district center was on the verge of collapse and additional forces should be sent as soon as possible.
The possible collapse of Khanabad district made headlines as last year the Taliban insurgents overrun Kunduz, the strategy province. Though it was for a short period of time, but left huge human and property loses.
