KABUL: At least eight people were killed and 30 others wounded today morning, after the convoy of Laghman governor, Rahmatullah Yarmal, hit by a car bombing, in Mehtarlam, capital city of eastern Laghman province, said officials.
The car bombing targeted vehicles of the governor in Sultan-Ghazi-Baba township, which is located in Mehtarlam city at around 10:00 am today, Laghman Governor Spokesman Assadullah Dawlatzai told Afghanistan Times.
Governor was escaped unharmed, but eight people were killed in the attack, including his four bodyguards and remaining four are civilians. Another 30 people including two bodyguards were injured and were shifted to provincial hospital.
Children were among the victims of today’s deadly car bombing, which is still under investigation.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Interior (MoI) spokesman, Tariq Arian, also confirmed the incident in a statement. He also gave the same details.
No armed insurgent group claimed responsibility for the attack.
This has been the third car bombing to take place in the past three days in Afghanistan. First was carried out in Nangarhar province with 15 killed and second was carried out the same day against a military base in southern Kandahar province.
These attacks came a while after peace negotiations were underway between the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Taliban negotiators in Doha, capital of Qatar for the past three weeks.
The contact groups of the negotiating parties are yet to conclude the rules and regulations for the main talks.
The attacks also came among the calls by all Afghans who want both parties to the war to declare a ceasefire.
