KABUL: At least seven civilians were killed in a bombing placed by Taliban insurgents in the southern province of Helmand, provincial officials said.
The incident took place Monday in the provincial capital city of Lashkar Gah.
Din Mohammad Zaland, provincial police spokesman, said that women and children were among the dead.
He said that a vehicle carrying civilians struck a roadside bomb at the outskirts of Lashkar Gah.
Zaland blamed the bombing on Taliban insurgents.
The militant group did not immediately comment on the attack.
Different parts of Helmand including the provincial capital are now the scenes of tough clashes between Talban and government forces for more than a week.
The militants took parts of Lashkar Gah city last week and government forces are trying to retake the areas they lost.
Thousands of people displaced their villages in the Nad Ali and other districts due to the clashes.
Government officials claim that there foreign fighters particularly Pakistani nationals fighting along the Taliban against the Afghan army and police.
