Leaders Call for Investigation into Friday Terror Attack

KABUL: Afghan leaders, Mohammad Karim Khalili and Mohammad Mohaqiq have asked for a serous investigation over Friday’s attack on a gathering commemorating Abdul Ali Mazari’s death anniversary, in which 32 people were killed and 58 others received injuries.

The dead anniversary of deceased leader of Wahdate Islamic Party, Abdul Ali Mazari was attended by different Wadat party leaders, politicians, including Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, where deadly gunfire erupted in the middle of the ceremony that many innocent lives were lost. 

Deputy of Chief Executive Office, Mohammad Mohaqiq held a joint press conference with Head of High Peace Council, Mohammad Karim Khalili, and had asked for serious investigation on the incident.

Terming it as a deadly tragedy, Mr. Mohaqiq said the dimension of the incident would have roots abroad, but internal hands (elements) cannot be ruled out as well.

“We won’t blame all security forces, but there are some suspected traces which must be investigated.”

He insisted on a combined delegation from Presidential Palace, Chief Executive Office, Parliament, International Organizations and the Organizers of the Ceremony, to form an investigating team to seriously probe the incident.

Moreover, Mr. Mohaqiq based on sources has claimed that Friday’s incident casualties are much more from what it has been reported. “No more patients left, we will use all possible means to ask justice.”

Peace Council Head, Mohammad Karim Khalili said no negligence is “justifiable” and the probe must comprehensively be done. “The government has to give a clear respond to the nation and mourners.”

He repeated for an inclusive probe team to investigate the attack.

According to Ministry of Interior, two attackers were killed by Special Forces in a clearing operation that lasted for nearly six hours in the area.

According to health ministry, 32 people, including five women were martyred and 58 others, including seven women and a child were wounded in the attack.
