AT Kabul: Hayatullah, better known by his stage name “Mirawas,” a renowned Pashto comedian, has passed away at the age of 70. He succumbed to complications related to diabetes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Mirawas had been struggling with his health for a long time, and just days before his death, he had shared in an interview that he had lost one of his legs due to diabetes, and the possibility of losing the other was also imminent.
Born in 1955 in the village of Malakhel, Tangi, Charsadda, Mirawas had a remarkable career in the entertainment industry. He contributed significantly to Pashto television, performing in numerous shows, including those on PTV and Khyber Television. Known for his wit and humor, he became a household name, not only in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but also in other parts of Pakistan and Afghanistan. He was famous for his comedic skits, satirical performances, and music albums.
In recognition of his extraordinary talent, the Government of Pakistan awarded Mirawas the prestigious “Pride of Performance” award. Additionally, his artistic contributions were honored internationally, with a statue of Mirawas being erected in Brunei as a tribute to his impact on South Asian entertainment.
Mirawas leaves behind his wife and five sons. His legacy in the world of comedy and entertainment will continue to be celebrated by fans and fellow artists alike, as his unique style of humor and satire touched the hearts of many.
Mirawas was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard on April 3, 2025. His passing marks the end of an era in Pashto comedy, but his work will live on through the laughter and joy he brought to audiences throughout his illustrious career.
