MEHTARLAM: Security officials detained a group of militants in eastern Laghman province, thwarting a looming terror bid, the National Directorate of Security (NDS) said on Sunday.
In a statement, the NDS said that Afghan National Army (ANA), Afghan National Police (ANP) and the spy service in a joint operation detained the group of terrorists.
The armed men are associated with Qari Ghazi group and a notorious commander Fazal Haq and his associates were planning to carry out a big sabotage act in Mehtarlam, the provincial capital, the statement added.
During the operation, the security forces recovered two explosive-laden motorbikes and a large number of arms and ammunitions.
Sarhadi Zwak, the governor’s spokesman, confirmed a group of terrorists had been arrested in a joint operation. However, militants have not yet commented on the incident. (PAN)
