Kabul: Cross-party peers have strongly criticized the Home Office’s decision to detain Afghan asylum seekers slated for deportation to Rwanda, labeling it as “shameful” and “disgraceful.”
In response to the surge in migrant numbers crossing the Channel, the government has initiated raids on homes and apprehended individuals attending routine immigration appointments, intending to discourage further attempts.
Among those detained are individuals from conflict-ridden regions such as Afghanistan, Syria, and Sudan, as reported by a supporting charity. The Home Office has not contested the accuracy of the charity’s claims.
