KABUL: A 40 years old man has been detained on charge of force marriage to a teenage girl in northern Balkh province, local officials said on Friday.
The eight years old teenage girl was forcibly marriage to 40 years old Fazuluddin as part of the cultural taboos, said the provincial head of women rights commission, Khadija Yaqeen.
She said the girl has been taken to the provincial women safe shelter by the police personnel.
Meanwhile, women safe shelter said the girl has been mentally affected after spending over two months in hostage with Fazaluddin as she gone through cruelly and violence.
According to Yaqeen, efforts are underway to arrest the girl’s father, who is considered the main perpetrator and responsible for the case.
The girl is from Laqbi village of Baghlan-e-Markazi district, added the women rights commission.
Moreover, Yaqeen said there are reports about another teenager girl, who is also victimized of force marriages. “We are searching for the girl to find her and rescue her.”
Afghanistan is considered as one of most restricted and dangerous country for women, where women are treated with less freedom and rights. Women in most parts of the country are not allowed to get education and decide for their own life.
