By Farhad Naibkhel-KABUL: The Afghanistan Radio-Television Union (ARTU) on Monday strongly condemned the attack on Kabora production staff, asking the government to form a special unit for ensuring media security across the country.
“The media outlets call on the government to establish a special police unit to ensure their security throughout the country,” said head of the union Ahmad Komail.
The request comes after seven employees of the Tolo TV were killed in a suicide attack last week in Kabul.
Komail mentioned the government’s “good efforts” in protection of journalists, saying but unfortunately, some neglects cause terrorist attacks on them.
“We failed to reach an agreement with the Security Council to establish a joint media and security committee to discuss csecurity challenges despite a six-month long,” he said.
He demanded the government to consider the media as national values and have a united stance in this regard.
Pointing to the “irresponsible remarks” by a member of parliament Huma Sultani regarding the attack on the TV staff, Komail said: “We sent letters to National Directorate of Security, Attorney General office and parliament to prosecute the issue.”
Sultani reportedly praised the bomber as a “martyr” and called the killed TV employees as the “bastard” in her Facebook page.
Head of Watan TV channel Abdul Majeed Moquri requested the media outlets to set their broadcasting based on the national and Islamic values to keep public support.
