AT-KABUL: Mediothek Afghanistan on Sunday launched two-day conference titled “The role of media in peace and social security” to seek media’s support in bringing lasting peace to Afghanistan.
The Deputy Minister of Information and Culture, Sayeda Muzhgan Mostafawi, said that media should lend its support to the government’s peace efforts. She said that journalists should be peace ambassadors.
Talking to newsmen, Mostafawi said that media can play an important role in bringing peace to the country. “Media can help bring justice for war victims, as it has done in the past,” she added.
She said that media reports regarding war should not leave negative impacts on society and they should consider public safety.
She stressed that media and journalists should remain unbiased.
Mediothek Coordinator Hamid Zazai said that the conference was aimed at promoting peace journalism and creating conflict resolution capacities in media. He added that media could play an important role in improving social security. He said that media should also work for reduction of violence.
Head of the Killid Group, Najiba Ayubi, said that media have made tangible achievements over the past 15 years. However, she added that media was also face with many challenges.
“Despite reporting, media should also play its role in healing wounds of the society through different programs,” she added.
