AT-KABUL: A moderate earthquake jolted Kabul city on Wednesday afternoon, which the epicenter was reported in northeastern Badakhshan province.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the magnitude of the earthquake was 5.0 magnitude with the epicenter recorded in Jurm district having a location of 36.097°N 70.301°E and depth of 43 km.
Fortunately, there is no report of human and property losses in this quake so far.
It is worth mentioning that the most deadly earthquake was took place in October last year where dozens of people killed and wounded across the country. In the quake, at least 115 people lost their lives and over 500 others were received injuries. Despite human losses, at least 4,000 houses partial and completely damaged across the country. It was 7.5m was centered in the Badakhshan in the Hindu Kush mountain range in Afghanistan’s far north, and occurred at a depth of 130 miles (210km).
In that earthquake, twelve students were also killed trying to escape from a girls’ school in Taloqan, the capital city of Takhar province while six others died in the eastern Nangarhar province. According to Badakhshan police in that time, dozens of houses were destroyed in two remote and sparsely populated rural districts.
