AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Militants have blown up a girls school and a health clinic in eastern Kunar province, said official on Saturday.
Kunar police chief, Abdul Habib Sayidkhil, said the incidents took place in Nari district the other night.
He said that a number of unknown gunmen blown up a girls school in Sa area and a health clinic in Shir Gul area of the district.
He added the compound of the girls school is ruined by about 80 percent and copies of the Holy Quran and other books were also burnt in the fire caused by the explosion.
The district chief of Nari, Mohammad Rahman Danish, said that around 250 girls were deprived of education after the school was destroyed.
The head of education department in Nari district, Maulvi Abdul Qayum, said the school was totally destroyed and there were copies of the Holy Quran and other Islamic books that have been blazed in the blast.
Residents of Nari and students of the school said they want to go back to school. They called on the security agencies to provide them safe environment in their areas.
No insurgent group including the Taliban has claimed responsibility for the incident.
This is the second incident taking place in eastern provinces in less than 10 days. On January 28 unknown armed men attacked two schools in Haska Mina district of eastern Nangarhar province. One of the schools was for girls and the other was boys school.
Following the incident Mohammad Asif Shinwarai, spokesman for the Education department of Nangarhar said that insurgents first went to the girls school, tied up watchmen and blown up the school with bombs. Over 1, 000 kids were studying in the school, he said.
He added that militants then went to a Boys School in the nearby area and broken windows of the school.
No group has so far accepted responsibility for the attacks.
