MAZAR-E-SHARIF: Militants with any label are threat to humanity, said a high-ranking army official, while hinting at reports about emergence of Islamic State (IS) fighters in some parts of the country.
Gen. Murad Ali Murad, commander of the infantry forces of Afghan National Army (ANA), during his visit to northern Balkh province confirmed that IS fighters wanted to establish their centers in Afghanistan.
He said that some militants hoisting black flags of IS had started their activities in southern Helmand and Zabul province and they were trying to extended their activities to Afghanistan’s north.
Reports about presence of IS fighters in southern provinces of Helmand and Nimroz recently surfaced in both national and international media.
The reports about emergence of IS fighters came soon after that Afghan security forces assumed full responsibility for security from foreign combat troops.
