AT News Report-KABUL: At least eight children were killed and six wounded after a mine planted by Taliban went off in northern Faryab province, officials said.
Faryab Police Spokesman Karim Yourish said an improved explosive device blew up in southern Sayad area of Shirin Tagab districtin Faryab late on Friday, killing eight children and injuring and six other children. The IEC had been planted by militants to target Afghan forces, added.
Some children aged between five to twelve years old were frolicking when the mine exploded in the areathat is under Taliban’s control.
Two of the injured children are in critical conditions and are under treatment in a hospital in neighboring Jawzjan province, according to Yourish.
Taliban often plant landmines and IEDs to target Afghan forces, but civilians mostly children and women fall victim to such explosions.
