AT-KABUL: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) vowed to pave the ground for development of carpet weaving.
The Minister of Commerce and Industry, Hamayun Rasa, said that he has devised special plans for development of carpet weaving industry in Afghanistan. However, he said that the ministry will focus on increasing export of carpets to foreign countries.
According to the ministry, Afghanistan has exported around 850,000 square meters of carpets, worth of $90 million, to the international markets last year. Export of carpets has dropped as comparing to the past years.
To increase export of carpets, the MoCI has recently signed a contract with Turkish Airlines. Based on the contract, Turkish Airlines will transport Afghanistan made carpets to 209 areas in a short time and with a reasonable price.
