AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Efforts are underway to restrain activities of Hezb-ut-Tahrir Afghanistan, said that Ministry of Interior (MoI).
This comes at a time that the Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah recently expressed his deep concerns over activities of Hezb-ut-Tahrir and said that the party functioned as civil branch of terrorist groups. He said that the party was radicalizing Afghan youth.
Seddiq Seddiqi, spokesman for the MoI, told Azadi Radio that Afghan forces have intensified their efforts to stop activities of the group. “A high-ranking member of the group was detained in Farah province around three weeks ago,” he said, adding that it was the duty of security forces to restrain activities of such groups.
According to some sources, the group had infiltrated universities and academic institutions.
Saleh Muhammad Saleh, a member of the internal security commission of the Wolesi Jirga, expressed his concerns that the group is still active in different parts of the country. He believes that the group is being support by some powerful actors, who are supporting and facilitating the organization.
Ahmad Jawed Kohistani, a security and political analyst, said that ideology of Hezb-ut-Tahrir shared the ideology of Islamic State (IS), also known as Daesh. “Though the group is the list of terrorist organizations, the government is still to restrain its activities inside our academic institutions,” he added.
It is worth mentioning that Afghan forces recently arrested 27 students in Nangarhar University for allegedly having links with terrorist groups.
