KABUL: The Ministry of Interior has denied the White House report about the surge of opium product in Afghanistan, saying that there has been significant reduction in narcotics product in the country as the counter narcotic police conducting several raids to destroy it.
White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) said in a report that puppy cultivations have been decreased but the produce of opium has been increased in Afghanistan in 2019 compare to 2018.
But an official of Deputy Ministry of Counter Narcotics Najibullah Ahmadi said narcotics product has been reduced because of drastic border control. “I can assure you about reduction of narcotic products. There are several reasons behind it, the night raids, draught, and narcotics price has downed and recently puppy cultivation in Iraq has scaled up.”
Meanwhile, a source from MoI, who wished to go unnamed, has told Radio Azadi that 75 percent of heroines have been produced in the provinces that are located across the Durand Line.
According to ONDCP, around 221,000 hectares land has been puppy cultivated in 2018 but in 2019 the cultivation has been draw down to 160,000 hectares.
The report cited that 5,550 tons opium was produced in 2018, while over 6,700 tons opium was produced. The ONDCP said its report has been provided based on information from Afghanistan.
