By Farhad Naibkhel-KABUL: The Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Wednesday assured of full preparations against the Taliban militants’ next spring offensive.
Seddiq Seddiqi, spokesman for the MoI, told newsmen that efforts are underway to provide military equipment to police check posts during winter season to be prepared for next fighting season.
He admitted that security situation deteriorated after fall of Kunduz city to Taliban. However, he said that efforts are underway to repel terror threat during next years’ fighting season—spring.
He said that the Taliban militants and Daesh fighters were fighting to find a foothold and establish sanctuaries in Afghanistan. He added that Afghan security forces are committed to weed out the terrorist groups from the country.
He stressed on regional cooperation in fight against militancy.
“Afghan forces are fighting against Islamic State (IS) militants in eastern Nangarhar province for the past six months in order to prevent the group from expanding its territory in Afghanistan,” he said.
He termed Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project as an important economic scheme and said that the MoI working on a plan to ensure foolproof security of the project.
