AT-KABUL: To fight crimes and terrorism in better manner while garnering public support, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) has launched Police FM here on Sunday. The FM radio station would work as a new weapon to bring down the crime rate.
The radio station is a first-kind-of-its-kind experiment in Afghanistan, and is on the air in Kabul and neighboring provinces from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. The project cost three million Afghanis.
“It is an excellent way to bridge gap between public and police and teach people about laws. Moreover, public will be urged to support police in order to improve law and order situation,” Acting Minister for Interior Gen. Muhammad Ayub Salangi said.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, he said that police would leave no stone unturned to implement laws without any discrimination. He added that the station would boost up trust of public over police.
Spokesman to the MoI, Sediq Sediqi said that purpose behind establishing of the FM radio station is to encourage people to help police and report about crimes and criminals. He said that police would receive feedback through the FM to improve its performance.
Police FM would be on air in other parts of the country in the near future.
Mahmood, 23-year old student of Kabul University, voiced his pleasure over establishment of the Police FM, and said that besides giving awareness to people the radio station would also increase awareness among policemen to enforce laws without any favoritism. He said that discrimination has increased gap between public and police.
