AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation (MoRR) expressed concerns over detention and mistreatment of Afghan refugees in Pakistan.
Islamuddin Jurat, spokesman for the ministry told Azadi Radio that they are deeply concerned over harassment of Afghans in Pakistan. “Pakistan is pressuring refugees to leave the country and return to Afghanistan,” he said, adding that more 300 families repatriate from Pakistan on daily basis.
He said that the minister of refugees and repatriation will pay a visit to Pakistan on 1st March to ease the problems faced by Afghan refugees.
To appease anger of the public, following the terror attack a military-run school in Peshawar on 16th December Pakistan adopted a policy to pressure Afghan refugees to leave the country.
Some political experts believe that harassing Afghan refugees are aimed at diverting public attention from terrorist groups who are killing people on both sides of the Durand Line on daily basis.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said that it has provided enough aid to those registered refugees repatriating from Pakistan.
Nader Farhar, spokesman of the UHHCR in Afghanistan, said that they are providing aid only to registered Afghan refugees.
It is worth mentioning that over 24,000 families have been forced to leave Pakistan over the past one month.
