AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation (MoRR) said that it has devised a draft of a 5-year strategic plan to return internally displaced people (IDPs) to their homes.
The draft was presented to a session of directors of refugees and repatriation of 34 provinces. The Minister Refugees and Repatriation, Sayed Husain Alemi Balkhi, said that after taking suggestions from the directors the draft will be sent to the council of ministers and then to President Ashraf Ghani.
Balkhi added that the plan will resolve the challenges faced by internally displaced families in Afghanistan. “This is not our policy to ignore IDPs, but we want to find ways to return them to their respective areas,” he said.
According to the MoRR, the number of IDPs has raised to 1 million this year.
Wars, widespread unemployment and several other factors have forced tens of thousands of families to leave their homes in Afghanistan.
“The MoRR in cooperation with 18 other organizations are intended to put end to internal displacements across the country,” said an official in the ministry.
The session was attended by directors of refugees and repatriation of 34 provinces, government officials, and representatives of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and other welfare organizations.
