Kabul: Recognition of the Taliban has been ruled out in Moscow conference on Afghanistan that kicked off on Wednesday with Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov saying that their agenda won’t include Taliban’s recognition
Lavrov asked the Taliban to honor their promises they made when they came to power which was the inclusivity of the government.
The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is now struggling with the recognition and Afghanistan’s foreign assets frozen by the US.
It has been more than two months since the Taliban took over Afghanistan but no country has recognized them yet.
In the meantime, India which is one of the attendees of the Moscow Format said that they will put the recognition of the Taliban along with terrorism, and humanitarian assistance on the agenda.
The Indian delegation is expected to be meeting with the Taliban’s delegation in a face-to-face meeting on Wednesday. October 20.
The Moscow Format will be attended by India, Pakistan, Iran, China, Afghanistan, and the host country itself.
Afghanistan’s delegation will be led by Deputy Prime Minister Abdul Salaam Hanafi.
The Moscow Format that is composed by the six countries was first introduced in 2017.
