Kabul – Alexey Overchuk, Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister, has announced that Moscow is ready to participate in the Afghan-Trans railway project, following discussions between Russian officials and the Taliban. Speaking at the Russia-Islamic World Economic Forum, Overchuk emphasized Russia’s preparedness to support this significant infrastructure venture, though he did not divulge specific details of the talks.
This project, which aims to connect Uzbekistan’s railway network with Pakistan’s through Afghanistan, is currently under thorough evaluation. Overchuk highlighted Russia’s capability and willingness to contribute to the project’s development.
Approximately a week ago, the Taliban’s Foreign Ministry reported a meeting in Kabul between their Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi and Uzbekistan’s Transport Minister Ilkhom Makkamov. It was revealed that a technical team of engineers had been sent to Kabul to assess the railway project, with practical implementation expected to begin soon.
The Afghan-Trans railway is a collaborative effort between Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan, designed to enhance regional connectivity and economic integration.
